Armed with a library of optimized shapes, we turned to the Win Tunnel to plug these shapes into a modular test bike, for more testing and validation. The result? A new Tarmac that’s the fastest we’ve tested—45 seconds faster over 40km than the Tarmac SL6. No compromises, just pure speed. - While aerodynamics were paramount to the Tarmac’s development, and to the development of all of our race bikes, weight was the co-pilot on this optimal race bike journey. Previously "aero bikes" always compromised in the weight department—the more drag you reduced, the more weight you gained. For the construction of the Tarmac, we utilized advanced aerospace composite optimization software to revolutionize the construction and layup of our new FACT 9r carbon. 500 pieces creating 7 different sizes with the same tuned ride–that’s Rider-First Engineered. We examine every ply of carbon on every frame size to ensure that all of our performance targets come through. To make sure you get the perfect ride, every frame gets a unique layup schedule with different ply arrangements, orientations, quantities of material in specific areas, and sometimes, even exclusive thicknesses and types of carbon itself. Aerodynamics is the most important thing we can do to make you faster, but with the Tarmac, we added aero features without any cost to weight. Through development, areas were discovered where we could add aero for free—a new fork shape and dropped seatstays with aero tubes. The result? A Tarmac that’s approximately 30 seconds faster over 40 kilometers. The updated the geometry is based on countless Retül data points and professional rider input. This enabled us to develop a Performance Road Geometry that perfects the combination of a responsive front-end and short wheelbase, which delivers instantaneous response and optimal power transfer.

It's a low-impact and fun workout for new cyclists and a zero-emissions way to get around town. We can't think of a better way to be a good Citizen. Easy to look at. Easy to get on We're super proud of the Citizen's sleek frame design. With an arcing top tube for the "men's" frames and s-bend top and down tubes for a super-low step-thru 'women's" version. In fact, we hesitate to designate either with gender specific labels because the version with the easy-access, low step-over top tube is suitable for anyone with limited hip flexibility who might be challenged to swing a leg over the rear wheel when mounting & dismounting. And easy to ride When it comes to recreational riding, nothing gets more uncomfortable faster than having to pedal more weight than necessary. That is why Citizen 1, 2 & 3 are built with lightweight 6061 aluminum tubing. In fact, our aluminum Citizen frames are at least a half-pound lighter than our famous steel coda street bikes. We design comfort into the naturally stiffer ride of the aluminum tubes by specifying larger volume 38c tires and adding a few millimeters to the chainstay and wheelbase length. Ride position A usual complaint from new or returning riders trying to get into the cycling groove is feeling uncomfortably perched forward with too much weight on their wrists and having to crank their necks backwards just to be able to see in traffic. We specifically designed our Citizens to remedy this. The large diameter 700c wheels push handlebar height up and shorter top tubes pull handlebars closer to the saddle, all to mitigate forward lean. Our 4-inch rise handlebars sweep back at a natural hand-grasp angle with a long-quilled or angle-adjustable stem that allows for a wide range of adjustment to tune handle bar height and reach perfectly for each ride. Where it counts Our super plush saddle features memory foam padding (Citizen 2 & 3) or extra high-quality polyurethane padding (Citizen 1 & Citizen) for optimum support with maximum comfort. The slip-resistant suede-type top prevents sliding and the burnished side panels reduce leg friction while pedaling. Elastomer springs help soak up high resonance road vibrations. Offered in gender-specific sizes. Why 700c? So why go with a Citizen instead of an Explorer or a Hudson since they all seem to offer many of the same comfort and quality attributes? It's simple: if your riding will be primarily on the road or on smoothly graded trails, the larger diameter road-bike sized 700c Citizen wheels roll faster with less rolling resistance and roll over potholes and railroad tracks more smoothly than the 27.5" wheels of the Explorer and Hudson. Geared to go The drivetrains on our Citizen 1, 2, & 3 all feature long cage rear derailleurs, full- size 48/38/28t triple chainring cranksets, and big 11-32t or 14-34t gearing in the back. This gives you the dual advantage of having fairly tall gears for controlled pedaling at speed on descents as well as really low gearing for easier pedaling uphill. It's a rider-friendly combination that's made the Citizens a perennial favorite of recreational cyclists.

The road goes on forever and the party never ends. When the Stigmata was resurrected in 2015, we fused a number of MTB standards and design features to create our spin on the modern CX bike. Something must have clicked, because within months of launch it raced to victory at the legendary Three Peaks, and has continued to contend at elite cyclocross races around the world. Nowadays, the internally routed disc brakes, generous tire clearance and thru-axles approach that made the Stigmata famous have become more of a norm, so we took a fresh look at which standards the riders of tomorrow wanted access to today. Threaded bottom brackets remain a perennial favourite across our entire line thanks to their proven robust, cost-effective and compatible design. "If it ain't broke…" ...and it never is. Fender mounts add a bit of CYA, and highlight the Stigmata's ever-widening scope of purpose. We added to that with three bottle cage mounts so that the frame can still hold at least one normal bottle even when running a front triangle bag. Deeper adventures, bigger tires perhaps? The frame now clears up to a 45mm 700c or a 2.1" 650b tire. Marry the latter to our Force/X01 AXS mashup kit and you've got yourself the kind of drop-bar singletrack and gravel rallycat we can all get onboard with. And when it comes to good old-fashioned off-road etiquette, the Stigmata's had some coaching at the Highball school of stiffness, handling, and offroad feel. The carbon layup borrows knowledge gained from not just the Highball, but also Danny MacAskill's trials bike, to produce a ride so law-abiding you'd think HR had sent it on a compliance training course. Geometry plays a big part here too, so we've made tweaks to improve handling for smaller riders and reduce toe overlap. Meanwhile different fork offsets—50mm for the 52-54cm sizes, and 45mm for the 56-61cm sizes—help ensure your little piggies don't go to market on the front wheel. If ever there was a gravity riders' XC bike, the Tallboy is it. The new 120mm Tallboy takes a leap further into what short-travel bikes really are capable of. With kick-ass lower-link VPP suspension, a streamlined design, the typical Santa Cruz refinement, and rather radical geometry, the Tallboy is back to being a genre-bending folk hero. Sure, 10mm more travel might only seem like one small step. But, coupled with a lower link-driven VPP suspension design, this is one giant leap for the Tallboy.
